Festival TANGO ARGENTINO
The Sächsische Mozart-Gesellschaft e. V. and the Tango-Echo vom Oscar e. V. invite you to Chemnitz with an extensive and varied program as part of their Capital of Culture project Moving Sounds - Concertina & Bandoneon. Over 2,000 guests from Flensburg to Vienna, from Warsaw to Mulhouse are expected. Seven milongas (dance events) with top-class DJs and three live bands from Dresden, Italy and Paris, two concerts in the Industrial Museum on the origins and history of the bandoneón, an exhibition in the Hartmannfabrik (visitor center of the Capital of Culture) as well as performances within the Hat Festival and two danced city tours will transform Chemnitz for five days into a small Buenos Aires, where the Tango Argentino was created with the bandoneon imported from Saxony and invented in Chemnitz as the concertina.
The Tango Festival Chemnitz 2025 honors the inventor of the concertina, Carl Friedrich Uhlig, who first presented this instrument with five heads on each side on the left and right in Chemnitz in1834 and whose origin can be located in the workshop/manufactory of that time about 40 meters to the right of today's Karl Marx Monument.
The events take place at various locations in and around Chemnitz!
