This year's art summer from June 14 to August 31, 2025 is dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the founding of the BRÜCKE artists.
Is this outstanding significance and the worldwide fame associated with it too great for this tranquil location at the Red House in Moritzburg?
It is not possible to present an exhibition of original works of art by BRÜCKE artists in the Red House on the Dippelsdorf pond, but this place is great in terms of authentic locations and mental charisma.
Here we have the landscape whose beauty, with its rolling hills, numerous ponds and forests, was chosen by the BRÜCKE artists for their summer residencies.
Here it was possible to "...draw freely after the free man in free naturalness..." (quote from E.L. Kirchner).
The seclusion from the big city, the spartan, communal life in a place characterized by baroque and rural architecture, also brought the artists together in a unique living community.
The awareness of the special significance of the place was reflected in 1995 in a representative BRÜCKE exhibition at Moritzburg Castle with over 130 early works. Since then, there have been numerous initiatives to keep the memory of the art-historical formative years of the BRÜCKE artists alive. Not all Moritzburg residents and guests are aware of this special aspect within the many highlights of Moritzburg's cultural landscape.
The 120th anniversary of the founding of the BRÜCKE artists' group is an occasion for us to bring the initiatives back into the public eye. The arc that the Art Summer at the Red House has been building for 12 years from the artistic and philosophical ideals of the BRÜCKE artists to the present will be the focus of the Art Summer 2025 until August 31.
The Moritzburg Summer of Art will open on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 5 p.m. at the Red House in Friedewald. The experienced BRÜCKE expert Dr. phil. Katja Lindenau will introduce the theme of BRÜCKE art. Afterwards, visitors can enjoy the summer atmosphere with live jazz from 6 p.m. with Oliver Klemp (BASS), Jochen Aldinger (PIANO) and Tomasz Skulski (SAX).
