European Music Trail Festival

At a glance

From November 14 to 21, 2026, the European Music Trails festival will take place for the seventh time at various locations in Leipzig and along the Via Regia. Its aim is to highlight Leipzig as a musical attraction and driving force in Europe.

The European Music Trails are a festival of Leipzig's musical heritage: composers and musicians who have lived, studied and worked in Leipzig and whose work has influenced European musical life are highlighted, illuminated in a multifaceted way and reinterpreted. This year's festival is part of a multi-year exploration of Leipzig's Jewish musical heritage - but also of the people who shape the city's musical life today.

As part of TACHELES 2026 - Year of Jewish Culture in Saxony and with partners from Poland, Hungary, France, the Netherlands and Ukraine, the festival looks at Jewish music along the Via Regia and presents sounds from East and West that meet in Leipzig today as they did then.

About the organizer Notenspur Leipzig e.V.

The rich musical heritage of Leipzig and Saxony includes the culture of its Jewish inhabitants, whose contribution is only barely present in the memory of the citizens, especially due to the National Socialist expulsion. The aim of the Leipziger Notenspur is to give this lost heritage a "home" in our region again by "localizing" it and thus bringing it back into the cultural memory of our city and the Free State. With this in mind, the "Jewish Music Trails" project focuses on communicating regional Jewish musical heritage to children, citizens and visitors to the city of Leipzig and the Free State as a whole - as interactively and sensually as possible and closely linked to former locations and buildings that tell the story of Jewish cultural history.
