Exhibition "The unseen design classic"

At a glance

Many people know and appreciate it, but no one can provide detailed information about what is probably the most popular, but certainly the most widespread kitchen chair in the GDR - until now. The exhibition "The unseen design classic" aims to impart knowledge and generate knowledge from September 5, 2025 to February 1, 2026. In addition to questions about design, production, model diversity, economy and ecology, the focus is on the users themselves: people who owned, found, repaired or extended the chairs. Their stories lead to a possible future perspective for the popular classic.
Following an initial presentation at the German Chairmaking Museum in Rabenau, the "unseen design classic" by curators Martha and Jacob Strobel can now be discovered at the Chemnitz Industrial Museum.
