Waldhusche, Hinterhermsdorf

At a glance

This visitor center at the Saxon Switzerland National Park is an open-air nature and adventure trail with interactive stations.

What exactly is a “Waldhusche”? Or a “wood giant”? How does natural regeneration work, and why were wildlife fences built in the past? The Waldhusche answers these kinds of questions in a vivid way.

The 66-hectare exhibition and adventure area near Hinterhermsdorf offers open-air lessons on forest history. Here, children and adults can explore stations dedicated to historical forestry work, ecological forest development, and modern concepts for the future of forestry.

Four themed trails wind through the grounds, connecting technical installations from traditional forestry with interactive elements and nature stations. Many hands-on activities invite visitors to actively explore the forest. The grounds offer varied and educational nature experiences, especially for families with children.

Two information points operated by the Saxon Switzerland National Park round out the offerings: the Beizehaus and the Blockscheune, both featuring exhibits on regional forest history. The Waldhusche is open to the public and is ideal for a half-day excursion to the Hintere Sächsische Schweiz.
