After spending some time in Gera, the Cultural Trail takes us northwards – firstly to Tinz Church – and then to the Langenberg neighbourhood, where we find a winged altar dating back to 1491 in the “Fourteen Holy Helpers” Church.
We then travel next to the White Elster river to Bad Köstritz with its historical town complex, its castle park dating from the Reuss period and its brewery. It is worth making a detour to neighbouring Bad Klosterlausnitz. A church in Neo-Romanesque style was rebuilt on the site of the former Augustinian monastery here in 1863-66. The triumphal cross in the impressive interior was crafted in about 1235. We then make a wide sweep around Gera to discover interesting churches in Münchenbernsdorf, Taubenpreskeln and Gera-Lusan.
