In the floodplain landscape of the Elster Basin, the Palm Garden was created in 1899 as a recreational park for the people of Leipzig. The attraction was a large palm house, where numerous tropical plants were beautifully on display. A large pond with an island rounded off this tropical picture. The society and concert hall were well attended. In 1939, the buildings were blown up to make way for the Gutenberg exhibition. The excursion will connect the cultural history of the park with a dendrological tour.
